MKC and I went to meet Steph, Veronica, and Walter at Nemo Gould‘s Berkeley studio.

Nemo is the consummate art robot crafter. His elegant contraptions never cease to amaze me. Some of his inventions are large and complex while others are petite and more simple, Then again some of the smaller ones are pretty complex. All of them are really awesome.

Here’s Steph, Walter and Veronica with MKC…

Hey Walter, what do you think of this giant cowboy robot in progress?

So many great things to see. All of Nemo’s work is made from discarded metal objects from vacuum cleaners, coffee pots, aluminum baseball bats, wooden coat hangers, you name it. He has this way of seamlessly integrating these objects so that your first impression is that the sculptures, as a whole, are made from scratch. Then you notice that the various parts had a previous life. Talk about recycling!

Nemo is making a six-shooter for his cowboy robot…

Whoa, check this out!

Check out the baseball bat forks. So awesome!

Rad!
I definitely have to get down to Berkeley one of these daze. Nice work Nemo!
Cheers,
Lawrence
I have one small piece of Nemo’s work and want more. Lawrence, your stuff rocks too!
