First Friday

September 8, 2007

Oakland kicks in the new art season with openings all around. Although my intention was to hit many, I hit only a few. First and foremost was Josh Keyes‘ show at Swarm. Josh sold the show out well before the opening. He tells me he will have 18 or so pieces for his show at Hang in October. Phew! Dude you deserve a vacation! Anyway, a lot of my pics weren’t all that good probably because the gallery has some low lighting for this show.

Andy Vogt does the assembled wood pieces which I like a lot. If I get a chance I will stop by Swarm and get some better pics of all the work.

Then we stopped in on the galleries along Grand Ave where 33 Grand (R.I.P.)used to be. Mercury 20 had a small group show in the back room with some of these gems…

Busy busy…

The Front Gallery had new work by Susan Ayako Higo and Meadow Presley…

Button thong by Meadow Presley… you’d definitely hear this thing coming…

These snowflakes seemed like your average grade school project. Look at the shadows closely… Nice work by Sue Higo!

  1. Hey John,

Thanks for another virtual art show tour. Who did the snowflakes? Reminds me of the snowflake art Pier Gustovson does:
