Johansson Projects in Oakland is currently showing the work of Anna Fidler. The show is titled “Vampires and Wolf Men” and runs through August 4th, 2012. I’m a little late to this show but you should swing by during this coming Art Murmur (Friday August 3rd) if you can. Anna transforms old-timey portraits of fairly unimportant folks into large, eerie, icons. Though rendered by hand, the effect is almost digital. Very cool.

The best of Fidler’s work are absolutely electric if not entirely enigmatic. There’s plenty of tension in them and they are most definitely worth seeing. While almost impossible to house, the very best of her largest works will bowl you over. She’ll be showing at the Portland Museum of Art very shortly for those of you who missed the show at Johansson and find yourselves in this terrific Northwest city.
