Museum of Historical Makeovers

Kathy Aoki has really changed her work for her current show at Swarm Gallery. Her “Museum of Historical Makeovers” is a pseudo museum complete with “old” etchings and Egyptian style “artifacts.” Her work focuses on obsessive pop culture beauty. The show info is here.

The “museum” features a “pardon our appearance” closed off section with a peep hole to view a room of the museum during installation. Dave Higgins, seen here peeping, helped fabricate a number of the elements in the “room” which is a miniature diorama

Peephole view!

Ms. Aoki and offspring.

In the side gallery is the sculpture of Chris Sicat. His graphite covered work is a study in obsessive process. Photos don’t do justice to this elegant work.

A little video of Chris’ process.

My sculptures encased, literally, at @bedfordgallery for the Sweet n Low show. I'm pleased and honored to be amongst so many cool folks. Good to see so many fellow artists and supporters out tonight. Huge turnout and lots of fun. #sculpture #painting #art #drawing
